Outdoor curling can be cold.

Curling at Crown Center in 90's
First started in 1987, the Kansas City Curling Club is enjoying a nearly 20 year run of actual curling in the Metropolitan Area. They first curled at what was called the Ice Chateau in Overland Park, but this was short lived. Changes in management resulted in the loss of affordable ice time and the club moved to Crown Center Ice Terrace. There, the ice sheet was smaller in size but, in curling outdoors, it gave members a sense of what curling may have been like some 400 years ago. Despite building interest in the club, loss of good ice times plus inconsistent weather made curling unreliable and difficult to build membership. So around 1995, the Club, finding no financial alternatives, simply stopped curling.
In 2003, a few members seeing the recent successes of new clubs in Texas and Florida (due to Olympic Fever?), decided to reconstitute the club. They first arranged for good ice time at a new facility in southern Overland Park, (Pepsi Ice Midwest), then renewed their aged equipment with generous donations within the club and borrowing one set of stones from the Aksarben Curling Club in Omaha, Nebraska.
In 2011 Pepsi Ice Midwest closed, and the club moved to Line Creek Community Center. Here the ice, lighting, sound have proven to be better in many ways and the staff continues to make us feel welcome.
Having finished our 13th season, we have managed each year a Free Open House , 20 week winter season composed of three six week leagues for beginners and experienced curlers, a summer league and a yearly bonspiel (competition between clubs). Our 2014-2015 season, had 26 teams competing in 3 simulatious leagues as well as have inspired a maximum 32 teams compete in our bonspiel. We also offer group rentals throughout the year to meet the demand as required. We have even started making plans to bring dedicated ice to Kansas City having acquired our 501(c)3 status.
So as we continue to make history, please spread the word about this well-kept secret in Kansas City, so others may take advantage and become a part of our Club's future
